Proud of myself that I checked 2 heavy bags with no fee I smugly went through security and proceeded to the gate with only my backpack. It was about this point it dawned on me that I hadn't packed the proverbial emergency underwear in the backpack. This originally wasn't an issue, but I changed my flight at the last minute requiring me to spend the night in Houston. My 11:45pm arrival with an early morning departure would rule out any possibility of swinging by a store... hmmm.... I wondered what the TSA and airline rules were on going commando? The hot, muggy, Houston air wasn't helping things....

I'm having an identity crisis.....who do I work for |
Anyway, off I went to San Jose, Costa Rica, 1/2 hour late. The plan was to land, find the contact Roberto, from the COSI language school, catch a ride with him to the Coca-Cola bus station in downtown San Jose, meet a friend of a friend and drop of a suitcase full of school supplies,
board the bus for the 3 1/2 hr. ride to Manuel Antonio, somehow find my little hotel and have a cerveza (Yea!!!). All I can say is that it went flawless, how, I do not know - smoke and mirrors perhaps with some divine intervention thrown in. Only one hitch and word of advise. If you are over 5'4" I recommend taking anything but the bus. Think poor man's coach regarding legroom. I had to board the bus 10 minutes early while the staff wedged me into my seat. It was at this point I realized there weren't any restrooms on board and I needed to go. It was the express bus as well - no stops. Thank God they had a scheduled stop 1.5 hours into the trip. I
was spared utter humiliation again!! :-)

I arrived as the sun was setting in Manuel Antonio and to my surprise the bus driver dropped me off in front of my hotel (after using the jaws of life to extract me...:-{). At last, my home away from home and the beer was very cold!!!! :-)

ReplyDeleteBuenos dias, Senor McCracken! What a wonderful little corner of the world you possess for a season, Dave! How nice that your trip was uneventful and you have settled into your "home away from home -- su habitacion!" Your brother -- Mike -- would feel right at home with the Iguanas . . . bring back memories?? (-: Adios . . . mucho amor!
ReplyDeleteAll I have to Say - the scuba should be awesome - wish I was there with you Dave - may the Lord be with you Brother - I'm not sure about learning Spanish - maybe you could just give me the cliff notes on that one!!!!

Buenos Noches, Dave! I hope you've had a profitable day studying Spanish. By now, I expect you to have acquired a vocabulary of at least 25 words! I felt like I was in the rain forest today myself -- rainy in central Florida much of the day . . . the only thing lacking was the "forest" part! You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Love you . . . Adios, Mom
