As I finish up the last of my packing, checking my list and checking it twice, my heart's beating a little faster in anticipation of the adventure I'm embarking on. Yes, I'm off for Costa Rica via Houston and traveling all night (Yeah!!). Going east is always a bear. :-) Other travelers before me have raved of this land and it's been high on my list of places to go and see.
The real adventure for me, however, is the immersion course in Spanish that I enrolled myself in a paid for in a weak moment 10 days ago. I've always wanted to learn another language before I move on to the next life and according to my language connoisseurs, this is the way to get started. So early Monday morning, I have a placement test to see what class I should be in. I tried to convince them that I'm a complete novice at this, since the only word I know is "cerveza", but they insisted on this affectionate process of humiliation. Needless to say, there's a certain level of fear and trepidation in this endeavor as they work to teach this dog a new trick. :-) Catching a Macaw in flight seems a bit more doable but there's probably a national law or something against that!
So, my B&B evidently is nestled cozily in the rain forest, surrounded by wildlife I've never seen and noises I've never heard. There are vampire bats and "fake vampire bats". In either case, I don't really want to become intimate with one of those.
I've always loved activities with a good amount of the unknown mixed in and today I'm blessed for the next 3 weeks to begin my adventure. I welcome your comments, insights, thoughts and stories of adventure.
Thank you God for this opportunity and may I be able to say more than "cerveza" when I'm done. :-)
I know Dad you are going to have a blast. Have a cerveza for me. I am looking forward to our Cabo trip and now you are going to expand your vocabulary in this so called language Spanish. Have fun LOVE YOU and travel safe. PS this is a cool blog.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Dave! Like Brandon, I think this is a "cool blog!" I imagine you're having fun acquainting yourself with your new environment . . . hearing/seeing the new sights and sounds of beautiful Costa Rica. I'm going to be really mad at you if you learn Spanish in 2-3 weeks; as I studied it for five years -- one hour five days a week, with homework -- to become fluent in the language! (-: Also, like Brandon, I LOVE YOU!
ReplyDeleteComa va la classe a hora? Su Espanol? Las playas? Missing you, but glad you seem to be having great adventures on the side. Oh, and thanks for leaving some great bottles of wine when you left, my Dad says cheers!
